About Us

Sedgefield School Sport Partnership is a provider of high quality school sport opportunities for young people of all abilities. Schools who wish to be a part of our service become Member Schools and sign up to a Service Level Agreement. We currently work with 6 Secondary Schools, 5 Special Schools and 37 Primary Schools. We work closely with Sedgefield Community College who are our host school. The mains services we provide are:

SPORTS FESTIVALS

We offer a range of sports competitions and festivals throughout the academic year for Primary and Secondary Schools. 72 events per year are organised allowing opportunities for all young people to compete or participate at their own level. We organise all Level 2 School Games Competitions as part of the Government strategy allowing successful schools to progress to compete in the prestigious County Final. 15 inclusion events are organised per year to ensure everyone can achieve through sport.

SPORTS COACHING

We co-ordinate the delivery of over 1400 high quality coaching hours in schools. This includes curriculum time support, after schools clubs and one off taster sessions. Coaching is delivered by local partners including National Governing Bodies of Sport, Local Authority and local sports clubs. Sports delivered in the 2011/12 school year included: Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Football, Squash, Tennis, Rugby Union, Rugby League, Dance, Gymnastics, Tennis and Get Kidz Active. All coaching is linked with further opportunities in the community.

SPORTS LEADERSHIP

We organise and deliver a Leadership Academy for Secondary Students in partnership with The Youth Sport Trust, Durham County Council and County Durham Sport. 50 young people from secondary schools access the scheme which offers training and deployment opportunities as well as logging hours for rewards at the end of the school year. The SSP also supports further leadership opportunities for Secondary and Primary Schools via access to training courses.

Working as a Community Interest Company:

Community Interest Companies (CICS) are limited companies, with special additional features, created for the use of people who want to conduct a business or other activity for community benefit, and not purely for private advantage. Sedgefield SSP transitioned into a CIC in 2012 in order to make the organisation more sustainable. As a CIC we are eligible to apply for funding from a variety of organisations which in our previous set up we could not. Any grants we receive will directly benefit our members and the aim is that it will help to allow the SSP to function for years to come!
