WinG was initially established in 1984 by a group of volunteers in partnership with Gateshead Council’s Children and Young People’s service to promote the education and personal development of disadvantaged individuals and groups in Gateshead.
Since its foundation, WinG has continued to support disadvantaged individuals and groups who have the least opportunity to take part in outdoor activities to learn through the experience of adventure. Activities encourage people to discover and value different ways of learning, growing in self-confidence, developing communication skills, their ability to cooperate with people and develop their potential.
In 2012, WinG became an independent, autonomous organisation, registering as a charity and company limited by guarantee. Since then, we’ve helped thousands of people to have life changing experiences and do things they hadn’t thought possible through an exciting range of outdoor activities or award schemes such as Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and John Muir Award.
