The Young Co-operators Prize is the beginning of a wider campaign to empower young people to create a more equal and sustainable economy through setting up co-operative businesses.
A collaboration between AltGen, Co-operatives UK and ten partner universities across the country, the YCP aims to make it as easy as possible for students and graduates to choose co-operatives as an alternative career pathway in which they collaborate with others to create meaningful work they are in control of. The YCP will support five groups of young people to set up their own co-operative enterprise by providing mentoring, business support and a £2000 prize.
Founded by three recent graduates frustrated by the unfair and exploitative nature of the world of work, AltGen supports 18-29 year olds to set up co-operative businesses as an empowering and collaborative solution to youth unemployment.
